Job Description
rue Gear is a small Australian ecommerce business selling adventure gear. Have a look at what we sell at ---------- . It's a genuinely small operation, just the owner and one part-time sales rep, no layers of management and no corporate red tape.
The role
We're after someone based in the Philippines to be the main point of contact for our customers, and to help keep the operational and admin side of the store running. This isn't a script-reading support job, but you also don't need deep product knowledge to start. Anyone who's ready to buy or wants sales advice gets forwarded straight to our sales rep, that side stays separate. We'll grow your product knowledge over time as it becomes useful, and we may end up keeping sales and support fully separate long-term rather than expecting one person to do both.
It's a genuinely small team: you, the owner, and one part-time sales rep. Most days you'll be working directly alongside the owner, not buried under layers of management.
Customer service is the core of the role and where most of your week goes. Alongside it, there's some simple admin: tracking numbers and shipments, keeping the inbox organised, basic bookkeeping and invoicing, and other small ongoing tasks as they come up. Nothing here needs a specialist skillset, it's work that needs doing between customer conversations.
What you'll actually be doing
Answering customer enquiries by email, SMS and phone, first point of contact for everything post-purchase and for quick pre-purchase questions
Forwarding anyone ready to buy, or after sales advice, straight to our sales rep, closing the sale isn't your job
Managing tracking numbers and shipments: chasing couriers, keeping customers updated, sorting out delivery issues
Investigating whatever a customer needs looked into (order status, stock, a supplier query) and getting the answer back to them yourself
Handling the store's day-to-day inbox, keeping it organised and on top of things
Basic bookkeeping and invoicing
General admin as it comes up
What we're looking for
Three things matter most, everything else is a bonus:
Takes feedback well. Because it's such a small team, you'll get honest, direct feedback fairly often, especially while you're learning the ropes in the first few weeks. We genuinely care how you're doing, it's not about catching you out, it's about helping you get better quickly. We're after someone who can take that feedback on board and keep moving forward with it.
Strong work ethic. Able to work independently once you know the systems, without needing to be watched or chased. You'll be trained on our tools (Trello, Slack, Gmail, Shopify), but this isn't a role for someone who needs constant supervision.
Great communication. Clear, well-spoken English is a big plus, you'll be talking to Australian customers directly. Natural over scripted. Calm and honest, if you don't know something, it's fine to say so and follow up.
Nice to have, not required:
Comfortable in Shopify, or a fast learner who's used similar platforms
Knowledge about electricity and power
Experience with freight or courier coordination
You don't need to arrive already knowing the products. That's something you'll pick up on the job, not a day-one requirement.
Why work with us
It's a small business, not a corporation. There are guidelines and structure, but we're reasonable and friendly, and can accommodate things when they come up.
This isn't a high-pressure or overly stressful role.
You'll have an integrated Claude AI agent set up to help you work through tasks efficiently, and a Claude Pro subscription is included as part of the role.
One paid day off per month, and unpaid leave can be accommodated when you need it.
Hours and pay
9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday, Melbourne time (transitions between AEST and AEDT through the year), with a one-hour lunch break
AUD $1,020 per month, paid fortnightly
Commission structure available after the trial period: up to an extra $300 per month in bonuses, with standard commission around $100 per month tied to business and/or personal performancc
Independent contractor role
Hours are logged with time-tracking software for the whole shift, standard for this kind of role
If you've read this far, start your application message with the word "Tracked". We get a lot of applications for roles like this, and it's the fastest way to tell us you've read the whole posting rather than just the title.

Three month trial period, either party can end the arrangement without cause during this time. After that, the agreement rolls monthly with one month's written notice either way. Contractor is responsible for their own tax and insurance, standard for an independent contractor arrangement.
