Mechanical / HVAC Analyst

Real, hands-on HVAC and mechanical knowledge is the core requirement for this role. You will review equipment photos and specifications collected by field teams, assess existing and proposed boilers, heating, hot water, and cooling systems, perform BTU, kilowatt, and therm-based efficiency calculations, and determine whether projects qualify for utility rebates and the applicable rebate amount. You will also prepare reports, maintain project and permit trackers, and assist with permit documentation. You do not need prior experience with PSE&G or a specific utility rebate program — training and program guidance will be provided. What is essential is that you understand how HVAC and mechanical systems actually work and can independently perform the required calculations. If your experience is primarily administrative rebate processing without a strong technical HVAC foundation, this role is likely not a fit.

We are looking for a Mechanical / HVAC Analyst to support mechanical and HVAC projects by analyzing field data, evaluating equipment, performing energy and efficiency calculations, and determining utility rebate eligibility.

You will receive equipment information from field teams, including photographs, nameplates, specifications, and other project data. You will use this information to evaluate existing and proposed equipment and calculate potential efficiency improvements.

The role combines technical HVAC analysis, energy calculations, rebate research, reporting, and project administration. You will need to understand the technical characteristics of different heating, cooling, and hot water systems and be comfortable working with different fuel types, efficiency ratings, BTUs, kilowatts, and therms.

You will initially work with utility rebate requirements in New Jersey and will have the opportunity to learn additional programs and requirements as the scope of the role expands.

About This Role

You will work remotely with information gathered by field teams at customer properties. The field team will collect equipment photos, model and serial information, nameplate data, specifications, and other relevant details. Your responsibility is to analyze that information and determine what it means from an engineering and efficiency perspective.

You will assess existing equipment against proposed replacements and perform the calculations needed to determine efficiency improvements. This may involve working with boilers, heating equipment, hot water systems, cooling equipment, different fuel types, and varying efficiency ratings.

A significant part of the role involves utility rebate analysis. You will research program requirements, interpret eligibility criteria, review project information, and determine whether a project qualifies and what rebate amount may be applicable.

You will also prepare detailed reports and maintain accurate project and permit tracking information. As part of the process, you may assist with preparing documentation required for permits and rebate submissions.

This position requires someone who can work independently and take ownership of the analysis. You will receive the field information, but the responsibility for reviewing the data, performing the calculations, identifying missing information, and producing accurate results will be yours.

What You’ll Do
Review equipment photographs, nameplate information, specifications, and field data
Analyze existing and proposed boilers, heating, hot water, and cooling equipment
Evaluate equipment specifications and efficiency ratings
Compare existing equipment with proposed replacement equipment
Calculate potential efficiency improvements

Perform calculations involving:
BTUs
Kilowatts
Therms
Fuel consumption
Equipment efficiency ratings

Work with different fuel types and equipment configurations
Research utility rebate programs and their eligibility requirements
Interpret rebate program rules and project requirements
Determine whether projects qualify for available utility rebates
Calculate or estimate applicable rebate amounts based on project data
Prepare detailed project reports using Excel or Google Sheets
Maintain accurate project and permit tracking information
Update centralized project databases and trackers
Assist with permit paperwork and supporting documentation
Identify missing or inconsistent project information and follow up as needed
Maintain accurate documentation for rebate and project submissions
Work independently and manage assigned projects and deadlines

What We’re Looking For
Strong hands-on experience with HVAC and mechanical systems
Practical understanding of boilers, heating, hot water, and cooling systems
Ability to understand how mechanical and HVAC systems operate in real-world applications
Strong knowledge of equipment specifications and efficiency ratings
Understanding of BTUs, kilowatts, therms, fuel types, and energy efficiency
Ability to perform calculations involving different equipment types and fuel sources
Ability to compare existing and proposed equipment and determine efficiency improvements
Strong analytical and numerical skills
Ability to research and interpret technical or utility program requirements
Strong Excel or Google Sheets skills
Experience preparing technical reports and documentation
Experience maintaining project trackers, databases, or permit tracking systems

Comfortable working U.S. business hours
Strong written and verbal English communication skills

Important: Prior experience with PSE&G or another specific U.S. utility rebate program is not required. Training and program guidance will be provided. The critical requirement is having a strong technical understanding of HVAC and mechanical systems and being able to perform the calculations independently.
